That in obedience to your Lordships Instructions I have surveyed The
Estate which pertained to Allan Cameron late of Callart / adjudged guilty
of high Treason lyeing in the parish of Kilmaly on Shire of Inverness
And find that the total Gross Rent of said Estate as contained upon
the preceeding Abstract Rental is £489..13..4 scots money from which
being deducted the feuduty payable to his Grace the Duke of Gordon superior
of said Estate and the other publick burdens also payable out thereof
amounting to £124.3.7 scots as contained on said abstract and on pages
14th of the Judicial Rental The neat yearly Rent of said Estate is £365..9.9
scots and in Ster £30..9..13/4 and that the tennants are liable to pay
their rent at the martinmas after their Entry.
I also in obedience to your Lordships Commands made enquiry With respect
to the Condition of the present tenants and possessions of said Estate
and the condition of their dwelling and office houses & Barnyeards And
found that they were all in tollerable good condition and I made enquiry
as to What arrears or rests of rent remain unpaid in the hands of the
Tenants and What arrears were in their hands at the time of the said
Allan Camerons conviction and find by the depositions of the Tenants
and Discharges produced by them and by the deposition of Helen Stewart
Lady Callart that the rents due at martinmas 1745 were paid to the said
Allan Cameron himself and the rents that have fallen due since that
time to her the said Helen Stewart and that there are no arrears due
on said Estate.
And I also made enquiry if there were any Yeards Orchards, Parks, Inclosures
meadows or any Grounds not inclosed Dovehouses__________ Cunniegares
or others not under Rental and which weres in the proper possession
of the said Allan Cameron or of any other person for his use and found
that there is a Yeard or smallas kitchen garden at Callart possessed
by the said Helen Stewart of little value and that most part of the
seven penny Land of Callart is presently possessed by the said Helen
Stewart and not under Rental, and being informed that Donald Cameron
of Callart was some time tenant of said seven penny Land and best knew
the Rental thereof I therefore called upon him to give his oath thereupon
what of the seven penny Land is possessed by the said Helen Stewart
is stated to her in the preceeding abstract at the rent given up therefore
by the said Donald Cameron in his Deposition on pages 11th & 12th of
the Judicial Rental and is contained in the total amount of the rent
of said Estate beforementioned.
And I likewise made enquiry if there was any Woods fishings Lime Quarries
or any other casual Estate which pertained to the said Allan Cameron
and was in his possession or in the possession of any other person for
his use, and found that there was some woods and planting on said Estate,
and I appointed proper persons to Inspect & value said Woods & planting
and find by their affidavit on page 16th of the Judicial Rental That
the woods and planting underwritten on said Estate are presently worth
the sums following viz The Firr Wood of Braenachann lying within two
miles of the house of Kenlochleven Four pounds ten shillings The small
Firr Wood of Lehk betwixt Callart & Kenlochleven Eleven pounds The Oak
Wood of Carnie betwixt Callart & Ballachelish Five pounds The Birch
Wood of Do. seven pounds and the planting about the house & garden of
Callart being all ash and plane tree Twenty three pounds all Sterling
money said hail Woods & planting amount to £50..10.. Sterling.
And I made enquiry for the personal Estate Corns Cattle Horses sheep
& other goods & Chattells which pertained to the said Allan Cameron
and for the Charter Chest & papers which belongd to him but could find
none and was informed by the said Helen Stewart that the whole stocking
of Corns Cattle Horses Sheep and other Goods which pertained to the
said Allan Cameron were plundered & carried off by the Kings Troops
in June 1746 except four Cows that the officer of the party returned
to her for maintainance of herself & nine children, And she deposed
that part of the Cattle presently on the possession belong to the Tenants
and that the rest were gifted to her by her Relations & friends who
also gave her Corns to sow her Lands And that the little furniture that
is presently in the house has since been partly purchased by her and
partly gifted her by friends as appears by her Deposition on pages 13th
& 14th of the Judicial Rental.
What is contained on this and the four preceeding pages is a Just
and exact Report of my survey of the whole Estate Real & personal
which belongs to the said Allan Cameron so far as I could discover.
