Quo Vadis ?

It is my hope that my family will derive satisfaction from learning of their origins, and maybe be encouraged to make further enquiries themselves and to contribute further material to this family saga!.

I live in hopes that a connection can be made with the family of Erracht. A further aim of putting the research on the internet is to contact other people with Cameron antecedents who may also have followed a trail, so that an exchange of information may lead to more progress.

Keep coming back to look at the site, for I am not finished yet!

Whatever the outcome, it has been enormous fun to (a) do the research, and (b) prepare the website.

Caveat

This website is devoted to the search for ancestors who were themselves descendants of old tribes or clans who lived in the fastnesses of the Scottish Highlands.

Perhaps because of their relative remoteness, loyalty to their chief was necessary for their survival against neighbouring tribes. Indeed, this turned out to be their undoing when the chiefs' policies brought them up against a more advanced civilisation from outside their ancient territory.

Much has been made of the break-up of the clans after 1746 and during the Clearances in the century following, when so many clan members were dispersed not only to the Lowlands but also overseas.

However, as a recent book reminds us, the dispersion of the clans was not the principal reason for the large number of Scots who make up the Scottish diaspora.
